General Description: To ensure the overall performance and quality of the operation of the department on a daily basis while exceeding safe and legal requirements set by the Department of Transportation and adhere to Baylor Trucking’s policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure maintenance performed on equipment and facilities are to DOT and
industry recommended standards
Ensure mechanics are logged into jobs by work performed
Accurately identify necessary parts for repair and ensure parts are coded to
correct work orders
Follow OHSA guidelines for shop safety at all times
Ensure Baylor Trucking company parameters are intact during each inbound
Maintain outside vendor equipment according to stated standards and requests
Practice continuous improvement by creating curriculums and schedules for
technicians to continuously improve knowledge and skills
Prepare morning reports, out of service lists, empty units ready lists for
dispatch and lost equipment lists for morning check
Assign work priorities to technicians
Create work orders
Monitor and track repair time by unit
Establish standards for technicians and trainees
Evaluate any repairs that may exceed value of the unit and discuss options
Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the
Experienced in vehicle and equipment repair with comprehension of engine
theory, steering, transmissions, drive trains, braking systems, HVAC and
Possess computer skills for diagnosing vehicle/component failures and
reprogramming engine/component ECU’s
Ability to perform data entry with some proficiency in Microsoft Word,
Excel, RTA, Internet, Outlook, and AS400 required
Communicates well with supervisors, mechanics, service advisors from
outside repair facilities and drivers
Driver’s license required, CDL class “A” preferred
Must be able to perform work as a mechanic if the need arises
Key Performance Indicators:
Work order entry accuracy of 99%
Rework rates of less than 1%
Mechanic accountability/ efficiency of at least 80%
Inventory accuracy of at least 90%
Manage indirect labor as to not exceed 20%
Physical Demands: Position requires the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and to withstand
temporary temperature extremes. Requires ability to work above ground level at times.
Work Environment: Ability to multi-task due to fluctuating and, at times, heavy work
flow. Individual should come to work prepared to work a shop environment. Overtime
work as needed.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver’s license. If possessing a CDL
license, a valid medical examination certificate is required. Any additional mechanical
certificates such as ASE certification are recommended. Complete and pass Baylor
Trucking sponsored training for Benedix Brake School, Wheel Training, Tire Training
and OHSA Training.
