2 arrested after high-speed chase with baby in car

Police: Driver was a felon with a gun, car was stolen

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- Two people were arrested following a high-speed chase involving a stolen car that began in Decatur County.


A deputy was monitoring traffic on I-74 on Tuesday night when he spotted a westbound vehicle traveling 88 miles per hour.


According to the sheriff, the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, however, the car reached speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour.


The chase entered Shelby County where police utilized tire deflation devices to stop the car.


Police say the driver of the car attempted to flee on foot, while the female passenger also exited the vehicle and tried to run while carrying her 11-month-old baby.


The occupants were captured by police. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Joseph Lamont Butler of Indianapolis.


Tyshiana Fultz, 22, was identified as the passenger. The infant was placed in the care of the Department of Child Services.


Investigators say they found a gun and a magazine during the search.

Butler was charged unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, marijuana possession, neglect of a dependent, and other charges.


Fultz was charged with theft, marijuana possession and neglect of a dependent.


Police say the vehicle was stolen in Marion County. Butler also was wanted in Indianapolis on two arrest warrants.
