Faithful Workers 4-H club honors Maurice Hartman
(OSGOOD, Ind.) – The opening ceremonies of the Ripley County Fair included a touching moment between a group of 4-H members and the family of a longtime leader.
Maurice Hartman, of Sunman, gave more than 50 years of service as a Ripley County 4-H Leader. He passed away in September at the age of 90.
In addition to being a longtime 4-H leader, Maurice and his wife, Mary Ann, have eight children who each completed 10 years of service in the organization, and nearly all of their 22 grandchildren have also completed a decade in 4-H.
Members of the Faithful Workers 4-H club approached Maurice’s sons, Max and Marvin, and asked if they could get wood from his farm to build a bench. The two sons found the wood and provided it to them.
Some of the 4-H members who helped with the bench include Lloyd Darringer, Luke Ludwig, along with the help of Lucas Ludwig, Levi Ludwig, Liam Ludwig, and Wyatt Kruthaupt.
The bench was unveiled during the opening ceremonies on Sunday with many members of Maurice’s family present.
In addition to Maurice, some others who made a positive impact on Ripley County 4-H who passed away this year include Jerry Dunbar, Jerry Gauck, Jarred Meinders, Carson Hughes and Krystal Peetz.
