All girls team wins inaugural Futsal tournament

Held at South Dearborn

(AURORA, Ind.) – Middle schoolers from across Southeast Indiana competed in the first-ever South Dearborn Futsal tournament last weekend.

Futsal is similar to soccer but is played inside on a much smaller court to ensure a more fast-paced game with more opportunities for goals.

Ten different teams competed, representing South Dearborn, Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun, Greensburg and South Ripley.

Seven of the ten teams that competed were entirely made up of boys. Two teams were mostly comprised of boys but each had one girl.

The other team, known as the Lady Tigers, was entirely made up of girls.

The Lady Tigers got off to a hot start by defeating Rising Sun and Lawrenceburg boy’s team.

They advanced to the championship and went up against South Dearborn’s First team.

It was a tie game at 3-3 when regulation time came to an end.

During overtime, the Lady Tigers outkicked the opponent during penalty kicks to win the championship 5-3!

The Lady Tigers roster includes Greendale students Chloe Veid, Grace Scribner, Raelyn Hartman, Amberly Watkins, Milly Callahan, along with East Central’s Quinn Klefas and Milan’s Cassidy Derico.

They are coached by Josh Veid and Heather Scribner.
