American flags have waved from her car ever since 9/11

Celeste Calvitto still drives with them today

(DEARBORN CO., Ind.) – The September 11 terrorist attacks led to an outpouring of patriotism across the nation during the weeks and months that followed.

Some of that patriotism inspired by 9/11 is still on display today.

Dearborn County resident Celeste Calvitto was living 30 miles from Manhattan when planes flew into the World Trade Center.

The following day, she decided to fly two American flags from the backseat windows of her car.

Since then, she has always driven with at least one flag flying for the past 24 years.

The only time they've been removed for more than a few days was during road trips through Canada on the way to Alaska,” Calvitto said. “It was just my way of being respectful as a guest in another nation. Of course, at the border crossing into Alaska, they were back.”

Celeste continues to fly the American flag wherever she goes in Southeast Indiana.

She also has a flag that flew at the site of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania that she received on the 10th anniversary of September 11.
