Area state parks to be closed for deer reduction hunts

Impacts Versailles, Whitewater and Clifty Falls

(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – Some state parks in Southeast Indiana will be closed on November 18 and 19.

It is for deer reduction hunts and it is only for hunters who were selected from the draw to participate.

Versailles State Park, Whitewater Memorial State Park, and Clifty Falls State Park are among those that will be closed.

The properties will be closed on the evening before the hunt and reopen the morning after.

“Deer hunts in Indiana State Parks are carried out to ensure balanced and healthy natural communities and are a necessary management tool that reduces damaging state park deer populations,” DNR officials said.

Officials added that the hunts help manage the impact white-tailed deer have on natural ecosystems. Get more information on the deer reduction hunts by clicking here.
