Aurora Eagles celebrate WWII veteran on Monday

One of the last remaining WWII veterans in Dearborn County

(AURORA, Ind.) – One of Dearborn County’s last remaining World War II soldiers was among the veterans honored in Aurora on Veterans Day.

The Aurora Eagles welcomed veterans in for a free luncheon on Monday and 97-year-old J.C. Lewis was among those in attendance.

He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Midway.

Lewis might be 97 but he is still young at heart. He still rides his motorcycle!

A member of the Aurora Eagles tells The 812 that they were honored to celebrate all veterans in attendance today, but wanted to give special recognition to a member of the Greatest Generation.

Lewis is one of just five Dearborn County World War II veterans still living. The other WWII veterans are Tom Cook, George Lingg, George Klopp, and Clarence Cook.

The Aurora Eagles is located at 101 Third Street in Aurora.
