Police: Truck crashed into car driven by two Southeast Ind. residents
(MARSHALL CO., Ind.) -- An Aurora police officer and his passenger suffered serious injuries following a crash near Plymouth, Indiana this weekend.
Authorities responded to the two-vehicle collision on U.S. 31 around 8 p.m. Sunday.
Police believe a truck crashed into a Honda passenger car that was driven by Jarrod Nichols, of Milan.
Nichols and a female passenger in the car suffered serious injuries and were rushed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, according to first responders. Their current condition is not known.
Nichols is an Aurora police officer who was off-duty at the time of the crash.
He was sworn-in to the Aurora Police Department in June. Nichols is a 2017 Milan High School graduate and has served in the Indiana National Guard for six years.
The driver of the truck has been identified as Arturo Mendez of White Pigeon, Michigan. He was also transported to the hospital for injuries.
Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
