Crash involved UPS driver from Moores Hill
(BOONE CO., Ky.) -- A deadly crash in Northern Kentucky involved two vehicles driven by local residents.
Boone County authorities responded to a three-vehicle accident on I-275 Monday afternoon.
Investigators say 70-year-old Randy Yelton, of Aurora, was driving a Kia Soul with 67-year-old Kristina Yelton as a passenger.
They were traveling behind a UPS truck operated by 39-year-old Ryan Weile of Moores Hill.
Police say traffic was slowing when Yelton was struck from behind by a truck driven by a Northern Kentucky man.
It forced Yelton's vehicle forward to collide with the back of the UPS truck.
The passenger, Kristina Yelton, was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Randy Yelton sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by ground to UC Medical Center. His current condition is not known.
"Deputies believe that inattention was a contributing factor, however, no criminal charges have been filed at this time and the investigation remains ongoing," the Boone County Sheriff's Office said.
I-275 was closed near the 5.3 mile marker for more than two hours as first responders were on the scene.
