Batesville to consider outdoor DORA district

An initiative by Batesville Main Street

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – The Batesville Main Street organization is advocating for a designated outdoor refreshment area, commonly referred to as a DORA, in the downtown area.

The proposal will be considered by Batesville City Council on February 12.

It would allow patrons to purchase alcoholic beverages at a bar or restaurant and leave the premises, if the establishment has the necessary DORA permits.

Main Street says a number of establishments have expressed interest in a DORA, including Lil Charlies’ Restaurant and Brewery, The Bier Hall, Randy’s Roadhouse, and the Big Four Café.

During DORA operating hours, people can venture throughout the Main Street DORA with beverages in hand. Additionally, subject to the discretion of businesses and property owners, patrons may be permitted to enter into other stores, restaurants, retail establishments, and other locations located within the Main Street DORA with their beverages.

"The adoption and implementation of the Main Street DORA aims to improve the social

and economic environment of downtown Batesville by encouraging patrons to shop and dine

throughout the district while enjoying their favorite beverage," Batesville Main Street said.

There are currently only four DORA districts in Indiana. Lawrenceburg approved their district in August and Greensburg's application is currently pending.
