Firefighters discovered a fire while on scene of another
(BATESVILLE, Ind.)-- It has been a busy weekend so far for Batesville Fire & Rescue.
During the storms on Friday, the department was dispatched to report of a downed tree into power lines.
“While fire units were responding to the scene, the caller advised that there was now smoke inside the residence,” the department said.
Firefighters determined there was an electrical fire in the basement of the home, and a short time later a home next door also reported smoke in their home.
“Fire units quickly redirected resources and discovered a second electrical fire in the kitchen of the neighboring structure,” the department said.
A short time later, firefighters noticed smoke coming from a third home. It was later discovered that there was an electrical fire there as well.
Nobody was hurt but the families were displaced as a result of the fires.
On Saturday afternoon, Batesville firefighters responded to a fire in a Hillendale apartment complex.
“The apartment unit was not occupied at the time of the fire; however, a tenant was in the process of moving into the unit,” Batesville Fire Chief Brian Hardebeck said.
A quick response and entry by firefighters led to the damage being confined to within the individual apartment.
The cause of Saturday's fire is believed to be an object that was accidently left on, and sitting on top of a stove.
