Homeowners warning others
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A few homeowners in Franklin and Ripley County believe they may have been the target of a fraudulent business scheme this week.
They claim that a paving company showed up at their house with excess material, and offered to either re-pave their driveway, seal it, or do other paving work.
One person did take up the offer and claims they didn’t receive the work that they thought they were paying for, and received a substantially higher invoice than expected.
Another homeowner who was approached declined the offer as they felt the estimated cost and type of job didn’t add up.
“You really just need to be aware of what you’re getting if it's being offered,” said the homeowner.
Another person believes the paving business might be targeting elderly people.
The 812 is working to confirm whether there is fraudulent business practices involved, however, wanted to make the public aware as we look into it.
If you have any concerns whether you’re ever a target of a scam, don’t exchange money or give personal information, and contact your local authorities.
This happened to a business in Columbus, IN recently as well.
