Be Aware: Indiana Toll Road text scam

Scammer pretends to be associated with toll road

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – Phone scams come in all shapes and forms and some area easier than others to identify.

Somebody locally recently received a text message that looks legitimate but is a scam.

It appears to come from “Indiana Toll Road Services” and suggests that your vehicle has an outstanding fee.

The text includes a link and read, “To prevent further fees totaling $78, please settle the due amount of $4.50.

For those in our area who travel to places such as the Chicagoland area, this could come across as real.

The Indiana Toll Road has confirmed that these messages are a scam and that they do not send text messages or call customers to request payment. They also do not request sensitive information like passwords, account numbers, or payment information.

If you receive a suspicious text message, you should not respond or click on any links.
