Community remembering Derik "Bub" Orschell
(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) -- Community members are mourning the loss of a beloved teacher and coach in Franklin County.
40-year-old Derik "Bub" Orschell passed away from an unexpected health issue on Sunday.
Orschell served as a Special Education teacher at Franklin County Schools and was heavily involved in youth athletics.
He was also a member of the American Legion and served as President of the Eagles.
On Sunday night, sports fields were lit up in his memory around Brookville. The fields at Franklin County High School, the town park, and the fairgrounds took part in "Light Up The Sky for #BubStrong".
Derik's impact in the classroom and the community is being remembered by many.
"Derik Orschell believed in me when I fought my toughest times with autism. He was one of the key people who changed my life. Mr. Orschell, because of you I will always have your song inside me to let others know with disabilities to CHAMPION on," said former student Jamey Rowe.
Franklin County Youth Football came together last night to remember Orschell:
