In honor of longtime MMH nurse
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A recent Batesville graduate is getting the opportunity to pursue a nursing degree thanks to a scholarship.
The Ripley County Community Foundation awarded Daniela Blanco with the 2024 Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship.
Brelage was a registered nurse and EMS member who dedicated 37 years to Margaret Mary Health. She served as Director of Nursing, Head of Surgical Nursing, and Director of Infection Control.
“Nurses are essential for patient care, but there's a national shortage. Scholarships, like the Doris A. Brelage Nursing Scholarship, can help address this by creating a pipeline of local nurses who will likely stay in the community, benefiting both healthcare providers and patients,” stated Amy Streator, Executive Director at the Ripley County Community Foundation.
To qualify for this scholarship, students must be a graduate of Batesville High School or be nominated by a practicing nurse at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, be accepted into a nursing school, and demonstrate dedication to both academics and community service.
Blanco has been the recipient of numerous scholarships this year. We first met her in the spring when she won an inaugural BHS scholarship. Watch here.
