Reidy is a published author and podcast host
(BATESVILLE, Ind.) -- A Batesville man has launched a successful podcast that shines a light on community members from various backgrounds.
Larry Reidy, who is also a published author, has interviewed local educators, healthcare workers, business owners and others on his podcast called "Larry Reidy's America".
He recently came up with the idea to spotlight Batesville and Oldenburg seniors.
"My inspiration behind this was to let people know how talented these young people are and what a good school system Batesville and Oldenburg both are," Reidy said. "These kids are the future of our country and our really the cream of the crop."
Reidy said this podcast also gives the young adults some public speaking experience without having to be in front of an audience.
He interviews three students at a time and each podcast is published on his website by clicking here.
On Friday, he spotlighted Batesville senior Eric Gunter, who is part of the school's work-based learning program. Gunter receives on-the-job training at Wood-Mizer while earning college credits.
"This podcast has been really enjoyable and felt good to be with people you connect with here," Gunter said.
Reidy said another reason for spotlighting the teens is allowing their voice to be recorded and available for play back years down the road for their families.
"My mother passed away when I was 9-years-old and I have no way to hear what her voice sounded like. I hope this podcast is something these students and their families can listen back to 20, 50 years from now," Reidy said.
Reidy adds that he hopes these podcasts show community members how Batesville and Oldenburg schools are giving these students the best opportunities to succeed in the future.
