"Without first responders this situation could have been much worse"
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Carriage On The Square Smokehouse is open for the first time on Wednesday since a scary incident last week.
A vehicle crashed into the downtown Greensburg restaurant injuring seven people last Tuesday.
Two of the seven people were air-cared due to the injuries and were reportedly showing signs of improvement last week. We have not received any additional updates on the conditions of the victims or the driver.
Restaurant owner Hans Van Louis is dedicating all of the sales today to first responders in Decatur County.
“It’s not an easy job, it’s a mentally tough job. I’ve just had a small taste from what I experienced that Tuesday night, and it has been the only thing I really have thought about since,” Van Louis told The 812.
“What first responders see on a daily basis has to have a mental toll, and what we’re doing today is a thank you and to recognize that we have people like that in our community,” he added.
All proceeds will go to first responder agencies including Greensburg Police, Greensburg Fire, Decatur County EMS, Letts Fire and Decatur County Communications.
The meal costs $15 and consists of pulled pork, mac-n-cheese, beans and texas toast.
It is carry-out only and you can order at the restaurant or call in advance. The restaurant hopes to be open until this evening.
Decatur County First responders are encouraged to stop in for a complimentary meal.
Carriage will be closed tomorrow before reopening with normal dine-in hours on Friday.
A fundraiser for the victims of the incident remains open at all Napoleon State Banks.
