Carson's best friend holds photo during auction
(OSGOOD, Ind.) – The Ripley County Fair ended with the livestock auction on Friday as 4-H’ers showed their rabbits, goats, pigs and cows for one last time.
During the auction, the fair took a moment to honor one of their own who passed away in March.
Carson Hughes was not only a wildlife photographer and Jac-Cen-Del athlete, but also a member of Ripley County 4-H.
A photo he took at Versailles State Park that he titled “A Painting From God” was added to the auction list.
Carson’s best friend, Clark Dwenger, held the photo as he walked around the show area.
Numerous people and businesses put up bids on the photograph with the winning bid being $4,600.
However, the auctioneers then asked who else would like to donate, with all proceeds going to the Carson Hughes Memorial Fund.
Donations poured in from across the livestock barn for several minutes.
The total raised was $22,300 for the “Painting From God” photograph on Friday evening.
Carson’s father, Jason, told the crowd, “We would replace all of this just to have him back. But we would not have made it this far without the help from the community, and not just Osgood, but people from all over the area.”

There was another donation drive for another 4-H member during auction, and the final numbers are still being calculated. We will share that story as well in the next few days.
