Firefighters were on scene for nearly five hours
(BRIGHT, Ind.) -- Firefighters from multiple agencies spent hours fighting a fire during the extreme cold in Bright on Tuesday morning.
The fire happened at a pole barn on Mayfield Lane around 7:30 a.m.
With temperatures below 10 degrees, firefighters had to battle additional challenges including hose lines that were freezing.
Crews were on scene for more than four hours and the building is likely a total loss.
Bright Fire Chief Kendall Eberhart says this incident serves as a reminder about the importance of having mutual aid agreements and neighboring communities assisting one another.
"With volunteer levels being low in the fire service across the country, we rely on other departments to help out. We cannot thank them enough for the help we receive," Eberhart said.
Bright Fire was assisted by the Harrison Fire Department, Miller York Volunteer Fire, St. Leon Fire, Greendale Fire, Lawrenceburg Fire, Aurora Fire, and Whitewater Township Fire.
During the fire, a worker at Edward Jones bought drinks and hot coffee for the firefighters, while Bright Christian Church opened their doors to any victims, while bringing blankets and drinks to firefighters.
