(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – We’re celebrating a North Decatur football player as our DCMH Athlete of the Week!
Corbin Thackery is one of the leaders of the Charger team which have earned a 6-1 record so far this season. He had a big game last week where he led the team in rushing with 117 yards in their win against North Daviess.
The junior has adapted well to his unique role that exists in the Charger offense where he serves as a hybrid running back and receiver.
We asked Coach Steve Stirn what he calls the position, and he says, “The Corbin and last year we called it the Kaden for Kaden Muckerheide.”
Corbin missed a significant amount of time last year but has grown, both offensively and defensively, to becoming one of the teams most dynamic players.
“We knew he would make things happen offensively, but he’s made some big plays on both sides of the ball. He is an aggressive defender and has learned to temper that to use it to his advantage,” Stirn said.
Stirn also pointed to Corbin’s skills on special teams adding, “Once the ball gets in his hands he is very instinctive."
"Overall, I’m not sure where we would be as a team this year without him.”
Corbin and his brother, Cohen, are both big contributors for the Charger football team this year.
Their head coach says their leadership on-and-off the field can be attributed to the family business, Thackeray Hay and Straw. Both boys have tons of responsibility as part of the business.
“When you see them show up at practice during the summer, you know they already had a long day, and will likely have a long night working after practice,” Stirn said. “Both Corbin and Cohen are guys that we can count on to handle responsibility.
The Thackery boys and the Chargers will travel to Edinburgh to face the Lancers this Friday.
