DCMH launches Safe Drug Disposal Box

Located within Retail Pharmacy at the hospital

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Decatur County Memorial Hospital has installed a new Safe Drug Disposal Box.

It is located within the hospital’s Retail Pharmacy at 720 N. Lincoln Street in Greensburg.

It's accessible Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 7:00 and Saturdays from 8:00 to 2 p.m.

The items that can be disposed of within the Safe Drug Disposal box include expired prescription medications and unused or expired over-the-counter medication in any dosage form, in their original container or a sealed bag.

A few items that cannot be disposed of in the box include herbal remedies, vitamins, supplements, cosmetics, other personal care products, empty medical devices, batteries, sharps/needles, mercury-containing thermometers, aerosol cans, and illicit drugs.

Anyone can access the disposal box and the initiative is in partnership with the Greensburg Prevention Group (GPG).

Retail Pharmacy Supervisor Amber Myers, PharmD said, "This is an incredibly important resource and service we can now provide. It’s also a great reason for our community to stop in and see us in the Retail Pharmacy!"

The program was created to ensure the safe disposal of medications, prevent them from falling into the wrong hands, and eliminate potential environmental hazards.
