DCMH provides life-saving training at county fair

 Emergency Bleed Kit training

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Decatur County Memorial Health spent time providing life-saving training to the community during the Decatur County 4-H Fair last week.

The training was made possible the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County who used funds to purchase Emergency Bleed Kits and provide essential training to residents.

These kits and training sessions equip individuals with vital skills to intervene and potentially save lives during emergency bleeding situations.

The training program was designed to educate civilians on techniques to stop severe bleeding before emergency medical professionals arrive. The training included instruction on three critical techniques:

  1. Applying Direct Pressure: Participants learned how to effectively apply pressure to a wound, a fundamental method to control bleeding and stabilize a victim.

  2. Wound Packing: Attendees learned how to pack a wound with appropriate materials to help stop bleeding that cannot be controlled by direct pressure alone.

  3. Tourniquet Application: Proper techniques for applying a tourniquet were demonstrated and practiced, emphasizing the importance of correct placement to halt severe bleeding quickly and effectively.

Each participant received hands-on instruction and complimentary Emergency Bleed Kits containing essential supplies to assist in emergencies.

"The goal of this initiative is to empower our community members with the knowledge and tools they need to act swiftly and decisively during critical moments," said Mandy Lohrum, Director of the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County. "By investing in the Emergency Bleed Kits and training, we are enhancing the safety net for our neighborhoods and ensuring that individuals are prepared to make a difference when every second counts."
