Back-to-back State Champions!
(INDIANAPOLIS) -- The IHSAA football championship trophy is coming to St. Leon for the fourth time in school history.
East Central defeated Northwood in convincing fashion to earn their second consecutive Class 4A title at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Saturday.
The Trojans offense started the game slow as the score was knotted at zero after the first quarter.
The offense heated up in the second quarter when senior Cole Burton scored on a QB sneak. Northwood tied it at 7-7 on the very next play with a long pass.
The Trojans began to break away with touchdowns by Ryan Brotherton and Josh Ringer to give EC a 21-7 lead at halftime.
East Central's all-time rusher Josh Ringer found the endzone again midway through the third quarter to take a 28-7 lead.
Moses Wheat scored a touchdown on an interception and Ringer had his third score of the game to win the championship 42-14.
During the awards ceremony, East Central Trojan Dylan Maxwell was named the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award winner.
