Lily calls it an honor to play for the Trojans
(ST. LEON, Ind.) – East Central freshman Lily Smith says her all-time favorite NFL player is Warren Sapp.
Sapp played for her favorite team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and was a defensive tackle, just like her.
Smith is the only girl on the East Central football team and is not intimidated by the boys. She crouches down on the line of scrimmage and goes up against the big offensive lineman every snap.
Lily started playing football in middle school and her football journey is far from finished.
“My absolute dream is to play professionally,” Lily said. “But if that doesn’t work out I want to be involved somehow with the NFL.”
If becoming the first girl player in the NFL doesn’t work out, Lily says her other interests would be to work as a coach or referee.
While she still has several years to go, making it to the NFL is more than possible.
She has already gotten the attention of East Central head coach Jake Meiners who says the freshman shows a tremendous work ethic.
"We love having Lily on the team. She's a hard worker, and we're going to do everything in our power to help her achieve her goals," Meiners told The 812.
We asked Lily what it means to represent such an accomplished program.
“It is amazing and I love it. I am so proud to be here,” she said
