Greensburg runner finishes in top 50
(TERRE HAUTE, Ind.) -- East Central sophomore Callie Bentley had a huge performance at the IHSAA State Cross Country Finals Saturday.
Bentley finished 23rd overall out of 250 runners.
Callie says she never expected to cross the finish line at the state championship when she started running as a seventh grader.
She credits much of her success to her family, teammates and coaches.
"There were people lining the whole course screaming, it was just like, it's all my family and friends there. It was just an amazing experience," Bentley said.
"I just want to thank my coaches. My coaches are amazing. Coach Kotherman and Father Meyer have been great coaches," she added.
Bentley was one of eight local runners who competed at the state finals.
Fellow East Central Jena Weiler placed 58th overall.
Other girls who finished were Batesville Lexiyne Harris at 143rd, Greensburg's Alaina Bedel at 144th and Batesville's Kaylynn Bedel at 165th.
On the boys side, Greensburg senior TJ Gorman finished 43rd overall, Milan senior Ben Riehle placed 101st and East Central junior Bradyn Hatton came in at 174.
