Family, friends honor Franklin Co. teen one year after death

Kayla Spangler was a senior at Franklin County High School

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) -- Family and friends are remembering 17-year-old Kayla Spangler who lost her battle with brain cancer on this date last year.


The Franklin County teen impacted people all over Southeast Indiana after she overcame a grim diagnosis to accomplish multiple milestones.


Spangler was voted the Homecoming Queen by her Franklin County classmates and also graduated from high school during a special ceremony.


Her favorite celebrity, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also rallied behind her by sending an uplifting video and apparel.


Kayla's family and friends will honor her at Brookville Lake's overlook shelter at 6 p.m. tonight.
