(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) -- The Lady Wildcats started the season with a home victory over Rising Sun Friday night.

Franklin County's Nicole Mears led the team with 14 points as the Wildcats topped the Shiners 64-38. Sophomore Ruby Singer helped with 13 and Sophomore Kendall Cox had 12 while hitting four three pointers.

On Saturday, the team made the hour-and-a-half trip south to face the Madison Cubs.

The Lady Cats were shorthanded as junior guard Madesyn Sunderhaus suffered a hand injury the previous night against Rising Sun.

"Junior guard Tiffany Billman is playing after suffering a torn ACL in December last season but she is limited with her time," said head coach Kyle Van Meter.

The score was 35-34 entering the final quarter and the teams went back-and fourth.

"In the end Madison hit some really tough shots and were able to scrape by," Van Metersaid.

The Cubs beat the Cats 49-45.

FC senior Nicole Mears ended the game with a game-high 25 points.

The Lady Cats will host East Central on Tuesday night.
