Student nominated her former teacher for award
(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) - A Franklin County senior nominated her elementary teacher for a unique award called the Independent Schools Teacher Advancement and Recognition (I-STAR).
I-STAR honors local educators who are nominated based on their teaching skills and commitment to student success.
Senior Macey Ward nominated second-grade teacher Pam Bachus, who has taught at Brookville Elementary for 25 years.
“When people ask me, “Who is your favorite teacher?” they expect me to answer with one of my current educators; however, my answer to this question has been the same since second grade,” Ward wrote in the nomination form.
Ward recalls how Bachus created a safe and encouraging environment during a formative time in Macey’s life.
The senior is now an intern at the elementary school with Bachus.
“To see her interact with her current students and encourage them the way she encouraged me is one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had. She accepted me with open arms on my first day interning with her, and I felt as if I was eight years old again, walking into her classroom for the first time,” she wrote.
Bachus was named an I-STAR and the award ceremony was held at Rushville High School on Thursday.

Franklin County was also represented by retired Laurel teacher Tammy Drudy and FCHS band director Jon Johnson during the I-STAR ceremony.
