Cemetery board hopes it can be returned
(OSGOOD, Ind.) – A flag and flagpole was stolen from a Ripley County cemetery.
It happened at Union Flat Rock Cemetery in the Osgood area.
Kristen Hughes is a member of the cemetery’s non-profit association and believes the theft took place sometime over the weekend.
Hughes is hoping that the responsible party returns the flagpole and flag to the cemetery.
“If it is returned we will call off the sheriff's department and the scrap yards who are actively watching for it,” she said.
The Union Flat Rock Cemetery Association relies solely on donations and they currently don’t have the necessary $500 to replace it.
“We have numerous tombstones that are over 75 years old and we were planning on cleaning those, we also need money to keep up with the mowing, and this situation could require us to divert the funds,” Hughes said.
She reiterated that they just hope the flagpole and flag can be returned.
“We don’t want to prosecute anybody. If it was just kids being kids we understand, but just return it if you can,” she added.
If anyone wants to donate they can by specifying the donation to the general fund and send to P.O. Box 6 Napoleon, Indiana 47034
