Former Ripley Co. deputy passes away

Served on department for 17 years

(MOORES HILL, Ind.) – A former Ripley County Sheriff’s Office deputy is being laid to rest on Monday morning. 


Marvin Smith, of Moores Hill, passed away last week at the age of 67. 


Smith served on the sheriff’s department for 17 years and earned the rank of Sergeant. 


He was also an Army veteran and was a member of several community organizations including the Lions Club and The Fraternal Order of Police.


Funeral services are being held today at at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home. There will be a police escort, Honor Guard and demonstration by the American Legion during the burial at New Cravens Cemetery.
