Focused on cyberbullying, healthy relationships
(LAUREL, Ind.) – Franklin County eighth graders participated in a youth summit on Wednesday in Laurel.
There were about 150 students and the summit focused on cyberbullying, substance abuse and building healthy relationships.
“This is a pivotal event aimed at addressing pressing issues facing today's youth. The summit provided a platform for open dialogue, education, and empowerment,” said Bethany Luers, executive director of the Stayin’ Alive Coalition.
Workshops and discussions focused on understanding the dynamics of cyberbullying, its impact on mental health, and strategies for prevention and intervention. Additionally, the summit delved into the complexities of substance abuse, highlighting the importance of early intervention, support systems, and promoting healthy coping mechanisms.
Students aslo engaged in conversations about fostering positive relationships,
emphasizing communication, empathy, and mutual respect.
Also in attendance were 10 high school students that are a part of the Wildcat Youth Leadership program sponsored by Stayin’ Alive.
Organizers are crediting Ried Hospital’s Community Benefit Grant for making it possible.
