(CONWAY, SC) – A Franklin County graduate took the mound for the first time as a Division 1 college baseball player this past weekend.

Brant Ertel graduated in May and is now a pitcher on George Mason University’s baseball team.

Ertel was called from the bullpen during the team’s season-opening game against Coastal Carolina on Friday.

The game was part of the annual Baseball At The Beach tournament near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. George Mason was part of the four-team tournament which also included Duke, Coastal Carolina, and Indiana University.

He had one strikeout and gave up two hits during his initial appearance.

His parents, Renee and Rick, were at the game and said they weren’t expecting Brant to come into the game so quickly!

If you would like to see Brant pitch in person, George Mason will travel to the University of Dayton on April 12-14.
