Hosted training seminar on Sunday
(FRIENDSHIP, Ind.) -- Indiana is one of the leading states for grain bin entrapment emergencies every year, according to the online magazine Fire Engineering.
It can be a difficult call for firefighters, who have to determine multiple factors such as access to the patient, air quality, and how long the person has been in the grain bin.
The Friendship Volunteer Fire Department decided to be proactive rather than reactive.
They hosted a multi-agency Grain Bin Rescue class on Sunday.
The training focused on freeing victims from the interior of a bin who has been partially or completely submerged and entrapped.
Several local agencies participated including Dillsboro Fire, Canaan Fire, Posey Township Fire, Jeff-Craig Fire, Ripley County EMS, Switzerland County EMA and City of Madison Fire.
The program was assisted by the National Education Center, The Indiana Corn Marketing Council and Jeffries Farms who supplied the corn and bin sheets for the training.
