Historic restaurant destroyed by fire Tuesday
(RUSHVILLE, Ind.) – A fundraiser has been launched after a devastating fire at a downtown Rushville restaurant this week.
The Corner Restaurant is located at the intersection of Main and Third streets, and had been in business for more than a half-century.
It is currently owned by Mike Clark and Dianna Pavey. Mike’s daughter says he has been at home on hospice with brain cancer, and the fire just adds to the problems the family already faces.
A Go Fund Me fundraiser has been launched to help the family as they try to get through this unexpected, difficult time.
“I am trying to raise money to help them stay on their feet for the time being,” Michelle Clark said.
A look back at Tuesday’s fire:
The incident led to a significant fire response with a dozen area departments responding and working well into the night.
Greensburg and Laurel were among the agencies that responded.
The fire has led to an outpouring of support and emotions from citizens as well as fellow business owners.
“It’s heartbreaking for so many people as it has been a huge part of the town for many, many years,” said the owner of Fish Moon Brewing Company.
Another person said, “This afternoon was a sad day for Rushville! We lost a part of history. The Corner Restaurant was lost due to a fire and other businesses have smoke/water damage.”
Meanwhile, the response from firefighters and police is being recognized as well.
“A triage was activated right in front of my property by local officers. I personally witnessed the great actions taken by our officers. They were hustling. Never again will I be “bothered” when I have to pull over and get out of the way of an emergency vehicle,” said Rushville resident Rita Keller.
The City of Rushville is also thanking the first responders as well as the community members.
“Our community came together last night in a way that would make any city proud. Many non-first responders stepped up as unsung heroes, with citizens dropping off countless cases of water, simply wanting to help. Local businesses also pitched in, offering ice water and donating much needed food to sustain the firefighters working through the night,” the City said.
