Took place on Saturday
(ST. LEON, Ind.) – East Central used to host a marching band competition called the Tri-State Tournament of Champions. It brought regional bands together but it hasn't happened for several years.
Band Director Megan Gryspeerdt is in her second year and helped bring the event back to life on Saturday.
High schools that participated included Batesville, South Dearborn, Rising Sun, Switzerland County, Shawe-Memorial, Harrison and East Central.
Gryspeerdt credits the support from administrators for making the event possible.
“I know Dr. Andrew Jackson and Principal Black are huge supporters of the arts, and Dr. Jackson is actually a former drum major in high school, so they’ve been incredibly supportive,” Gryspeerdt told The 812.
She added that the marching band competition will be even bigger next year.
“It means a lot to have a local marching band opportunity for these schools. Many of us band directors are all friends so it’s really neat that we can all get together right here at home,” Gryspeerdt added.
