(CHARLOTTESVILLE, Ind.) -- Several local student-athletes showed dominance on the mat during the Indiana Girls Wrestling Regional on Saturday.
The wrestlers competed at Eastern Hancock and five of them secured a spot at the semi-state.
Milan sophomore Kayla Roell finished first place in her weight class to win her Regional division. She is not only a successful wrestler but also an exceptional racer. The 812 spotlighted her in 2022 and you can watch by clicking here.
Another sophomore also took home the top prize, Franklin County's Lila Westerman defeated a Shenandoah wrestler to advance to semi-state.
Lawrenceburg student Jessica Gnanamanickam also earned a spot to advance past Regionals.
East Central's Leighna Prater finished in first place in her class and Tegan Caddell finished in second, both earning a trip to semi-state.
Switzerland County also left their mark on the Regionals. Serenity Sims became the first girl to win regionals in school history. Also advancing to semi-state are Klaire Redwine, Avy Burkholder, Maleah Wolf and Peyton Stow.
The semi-state which will take place on Friday, January 5.
