School Board and administrators promoting fiscal responsibility

(MILAN, Ind.) -- Milan Community Schools continue to make progress on their multi-year $11 million renovation project which was approved by the school board in 2021.

The most recent upgrade is a brand new weight room at the high school.

The 3300-square-foot room is connected to the gym and features a bank of large windows facing south and west. The project also includes the addition of two restrooms, a laundry and storage room, and a changing room.

This project was finished under budget at $2 million and is the final phase of the school corporation's renovation projects.

The weight room will be available for use when students return to school after Christmas break in January.

Milan strength and conditioning coach Kyle Sabol said, "I think it shows that our school district and our administrators really invest in our kids and they want to see their success grow not only athletically but also in the classroom."

The weight room is one component of the massive upgrade project tha started in 2021 and has included renovations at the elementary, middle and high schools.

Some of the more notable projects were the multi-use turf athletic field, new scoreboard and new high school gym lobby.

School officials say the massive projects was only possible by being fiscally responsible and taking pride in the facilities offered to students.

"Because of that, there have been no increases in taxpayer contributions to fund this project which will serve the community for many years to come," said retired superintendent Jane Rodgers, who has overseen the project and remains active in assisting with its completion.
