School is thanking those who made project possible
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – South Decatur Elementary students are enjoying the Outdoor Learning Lab this year, thanks to the community.
An initiative to clean up and repair the wooded area began in 2019.
The school is now using it for various projects, exploration or simply an outdoor classroom.
It features trails, walking bridges, and an overlook that the kids have nicknamed “the magic treehouse.”
“Teachers love the ability to take their students out to the Learning Lab on a beautiful day and incorporate this awesome area into their learning experience,” said South Decatur Elementary Principal Nicole Stone.
Stone also says that immersion in nature will also help students develop more awareness to green space conservation.
The school hosted a Thanks for Giving celebration this week for those who contributed to the project.
The celebration thanks those who contributed to the development of the outdoor learning lab.
"Thousands of volunteer hours have been spent cultivating thousands of dollars that have been given. Special thanks to Ray Rose, my dad, who instilled in me the value of a handshake and grit in the face of adversity. His love and lessons of the woods fostered my own," said Nancy Wamsley.
