Decatur County students competed
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A Greensburg junior won the Greensburg Optimist Club Oratorical Contest.
Chase Tekulve was awarded $200 after finishing in first place. He and the second-place finisher, Chloe Dick, now have the opportunity to compete at the district level on March 10.
The local competition had students write a 5-minute speech with the theme being, “How to
Change the World with Optimism.”
“We are very impressed with what the youth of our community shared tonight. The members of our Optimist Club and community should be proud of our youth for stepping up to the plate to deliver such great speeches on changing the world.” Optimist and chair of the event, Sonja
Kolmkeier said.
The Optimist Club of Greensburg has been participating in the Optimist Oratorical Contest for
many years and plays an active role with youth in our community.
Kolkmeier would like to thank Mike Novak for being the evening’s emcee, Mayor Joshua
Marsh, Nicole Luman and Collin Rigney for being the three judges. Additionally, thank you to
Dustin Smith for running the lights and sound and the Greensburg Community High School’s
Junior Optimist Club for their behind the scenes assistance.
