Global tech outage causes travel mess for RCCF employees

Unable to fly home on Friday

Lamping and Callie Main at Minneapolis airport

(MINNEAPOLIS) – Janice Lamping was hoping to make it to Freudenfest in Oldenburg tonight but that will not happen.

Lamping works for the Ripley County Community Foundation and is with co-workers Callie Main and Amy Wonnell for a training seminar in Minnesota.

Their flight home was scheduled for Friday afternoon but that changed due to a global IT outage, which has led to thousands of flight cancellations.

The flight from Minneapolis to Cincinnati has been cancelled and Lamping says the earliest flight they can book isn’t until Sunday.

“It has caused a lot of anxiety and frustration because they waited so long to tell us what was going on,” Janice told The 812.

The RCCF members are now hoping to find a car rental but there are concerns regarding availability due to the increased demand.

The tech outage is not believed to be a cyber attack, and has impacted sectors beyond air travel including banks, 911 call centers, hospitals, public transit and more.
