Governor with Indiana National Guard soldiers

(NAIROBI, KENYA) -- Governor Eric Holcomb is visiting Indiana National Guard soldiers who are stationed in Kenya this week.

The governor says the trip is an opportunity to thank the service members who have been deployed since April. The troops are from Seymour and they're in Kenya to strengthen regional stability and security in the Horn of Africa region.

Gov. Holcomb made the trip with Indiana Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Dale Lyles and they shared a Thanksgiving meal with the soldiers.

“They serve us at home in urgent times and far away when the orders arrive. So this year, while you huddle up with friends and family and celebrate your own family traditions, remember many of our Guard families are separated from one another while defending our values and way of life," Governor Holcomb said.

The 812's Steven Harmeyer asked what it meant to the troops to receive a visit from Indiana's governor.

The Guardsmen are scheduled to return home to Indiana next year.
