Jamie Johnson spoke with The 812 about the honor
(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) -- The newest mural in Lawrenceburg pays tribute to some of the best musicians who have called Southeast Indiana home.
The mural was unveiled earlier this month during a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Southeast Indiana Musician's Association (SEIMA) and the City of Lawrenceburg.
Among the musician's displayed on the mural is Milan native Jamie Johnson of The Grascals.
The bluegrass band has earned three Grammy nominations and have more than 200 appearances at the Grand Ole Opry.
Johnson caught up with The 812 recently in Nashville and called the mural one of the great honors of his career.
"It's a huge accomplishment to be recognized among all those artists because Southeast Indiana is very rich in music with a lot of talent," Johnson said. "There's a lot of people back home that I looked up to and to be on the mural with them is really cool."
"That mural is about 10 feet taller than I am and it'll be the largest I'll ever be," he laughed.
Some other musician's that are featured include Lonnie Mack, Boys from Indiana, Kristen Weber, Ric Wright, Nelson Elliott, Jimmy Thomas and more.
The new SEIMA mural is located at Lawrenceburg's Civic Park. You can follow Jamie and The Grascals by clicking here.
In a world where music often serves as a universal language, this mural becomes a symbolic bridge between the past, present, and future, allowing the community to celebrate its musical heritage. The emotional response from The Grascals reinforces the notion that such tributes not only honor the individual musician but also resonate with the collective soul of the community itself.
