Pirates led for majority of the game
(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- The Greensburg Lady Pirates lost a nailbiter against Warren Central of Indianapolis on Tuesday night.
The Lady Pirates are the sixth-ranked team in Class 3A and hosted the Warriors who are known for their athletic achievements which include 28 state championships.
Some notable Warren Central alums include former NFL quarterback Jeff George, along with current Browns players David Bell and Sheldon Day, and sports personality Jason Whitlock.
The Pirates got off to a hot start and took a 39-29 lead into halftime.
It became a closer game in the second half when the Warriors came back to take a 47-46 lead at the end of the third quarter.
It was a back-and-forth one point game for the majority of the fourth quarter.
Warren Central took a 56-55 lead with 1:07 to go in the contest and ended up winning 60-56.
Coach Jason Simpson said he wasn't content with how the Lady Pirates played in the second half.
"[Our team] has hopes, dreams and aspirations that they want to accomplish, and none of those things will happen if they play with the lack of physical and mental toughness they played with tonight," Simpson told WTRE.
"Hopefully we can get things figured out and put a product on the floor worth cheering for," he added.
Greensburg will be back in action when they host Batesville on Saturday, January 20.
During Tuesday's game, the WTRE announcers referenced the t-shirt fundraiser for St. Mary's sixth-grader Gabby Miller multiple times. Here's a link to learn more.
