Greensburg inducts two new HOF members

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Greensburg High School inducted two new members into their Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

Alan Henningsen and Russell Wilhoit were inducted during the home basketball game against South Decatur.

The GCHS Hall of Fame is not limited to athletic success, but rather recognizes graduates who contribute significantly to their communities or professions after high school.

Family of Alan Henningsen accept award

Alan Henningsen was a 1978 graduate who made an impact on marine biology research throughout his career.  His focus was on sharks and rays, and sawfishes. He spent three decades working at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, where he served as an expert and researcher, while greatly contributing to the aquarium’s Shark Alley exhibit.

He passed away in 2021 after a battle with ALS.

Russell Wilhoit accepts HOF award

Russell Wilhoit graduated in 1967 and is a Decatur County historian. He has received a number of service and historical society awards along with restoring and bringing awareness to the care and upkeep of cemeteries in our area.

Wilhoit has been active with softball for many years and still helps with the Pirates softball team to this day.
