Department announced Sunday

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – The Greensburg Police Department is announcing the retirement of K9 Hercules.

He has served on the department for five years and is one of two K9’s within GPD.

The two dogs have been asked to respond to nearly 300 calls in the past year.

They help our officers on traffic stops and are trained in evidence article searching. They're trained in narcotics detection. They're trained in criminal apprehension. And we've done some of all of that in the last year,” Greensburg Police Chief Mike McNealy told The 812 in October.

The GPD K9 program is primarily funded by donations along with an annual golf scramble.

If you would like to make a donation to this program, contact Greensburg Police at (812) 663-3131.

The department expressed their appreciation of Hercules on Sunday night, saying, “Thank you for your service, Hercules. You will certainly be missed.”
