Had child in car, police said
(COLUMBUS, Ind.) - Authorities say a Greensburg man pointed a gun at another person before resisting arrest.
Columbus Police arrested 31-year-old Jesse Sparks on charges of Dealing in Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Neglect of a Dependent, Intimidation with a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, and Resisting Law Enforcement .
Investigators say Sparks pointed a gun at another person in on Maple Street in Columbus early Sunday morning.
He reportedly left that area in a red minivan and was later stopped by Columbus Police.
Police say Sparks became uncooperative and refused to exit the vehicle.
When officers attempted to restrain Sparks’ arms, he pulled away and began reaching in the vehicle where the officers could not see, police said.
Officers used a Taser to take him into custody.
Police say they found a loaded handgun in the waistband of his pants.
Investigators allege Sparks also had methamphetamine both in his clothing as well as in a backpack.
A small child was in the back seat of Sparks’ vehicle and was later placed in the care of a family member.
A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy who received a minor injury during the altercation was treated at Columbus Regional Hospital.
