Area police will increase DUI patrols through Labor Day

Increased patrols in area communities

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Several local agencies are stepping up patrols in an effort to curb drunk driving now through Labor Day.

Greensburg Police announced they will have increased patrols and so will the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Batesville Police Department.

They are participating in the ‘‘Drive sober or get pulled over’ campaign from August 16 through September 2.

Drivers should expect to see more patrols and the possibility of sobriety checkpoints.

"As we ramp up our enforcement efforts from August 16 to September 2, our goal is clear: prevent impaired driving and keep our roads safe. Alcohol and drug impairment continue to be major factors in traffic fatalities, and we’re dedicated to cracking down on these dangerous behaviors. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or use alternative transportation,” said Police Chief Mike McNealy.

Throughout the state, nearly 20 percent of fatal car crashes involved alcohol impairment last year.
