(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – Greensburg Police Chief Mike McNealy is connecting with the community not only in person but also on social media.

He has a Facebook and Instagram page where he shares safety tips and department updates, and will likely respond if you reach out.

(The page is not monitored 24/7 so always call 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.)

McNealy is reminding people within his community and beyond about the importance of protecting your belongings inside your car.

“Many vehicle burglaries, and to a lesser degree, stolen vehicles, occur as a result of vehicles being left unlocked. Criminals walk through neighborhoods, trying vehicle door handles, hoping to find an unlocked vehicle,” McNealy wrote on his Facebook page.

He urges your family to follow the 9PM Routine, a nightly reminder to remove valuables from your vehicle, lock your car and other doors around your property,  turn on exterior lights and activate all alarms and security systems.

McNealy added, “Criminals look for easy targets. You can make it more difficult for them by following the 9PMRoutine!”
