Greensburg senior tackling stereotypes on the gridiron

Pelsor has played high school football for four years

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) –  A Greensburg senior prefers the gridiron over glamor.

When she was younger, Evelyn Pelsor participated in cheerleading and dance but decided to punt those sports away for something else.

And she's been putting on the shoulder pads ever since.

Pelsor started playing football as a first grader and is now a linebacker for the Greensburg JV football team.

“I saw my brothers playing and it sparked an interest. I thought, if they can do it why can’t I,” she told The 812.

Evelyn doesn’t feel like she’s treated any different than the boys, and her teammates would agree.

“She’s one of the toughest players on our team to be honest,” one of her teammates said.

Pelsor says one of her favorite parts of the game is the adrenaline that comes from competition.

“Once you step on the field it's just a different spark. The adrenaline is something you really never feel when you're doing anything else,” she said.

She encourages other girls her age to follow their passion, no matter how unconventional it might be.

“Just go for it. Don’t second guess what you want to do,” she said.

“I don’t think that I would be the person I am now if I didn’t continue staying with what I actually love to do,” she added.

Pelsor is expected to be back on the field with Greensburg JV hosts South Dearborn at Shriver Field on Monday night.

The senior is also on the wrestling team and is planning to go to Ivy Tech to pursue a career in physical therapy after high school.
