Greensburg teacher to hold final Chautauqua today

John Pratt's creation leaves lasting impact on students

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) -- Greensburg history teacher John Pratt has made a lasting impact on students and the community during his career in education.

One of his most notable creations will come to an end on Thursday.

Pratt founded the semi-annual Chautauqua series nearly two decades ago while teaching at North Decatur.

The program has continued and grown since he began teaching at his alma mater of Greensburg.

Pratt has brought in famous actors and actresses, musicians, Nobel Peace Prize winners, politicians and historical figures to share their stories and insights with students and community members.

He created the Chautauqua with a simple mission: To show students that greatness occurs everywhere. Even in Greensburg.

In 2020, he held the first virtual Chautauqua and one of the guests was an actor from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood

Pratt will host his final Chautauqua on Thursday morning.

His guests will include Bryce Bruce, a member of the first tour of "Hamilton" who will perform a song and have a question-and-answer session with students.

Bruce will be by a musician who performed before Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

The final guest will be Ada Limon, who is the 2023 United States Poet Laureate for Poetry.
